Blog entry Food Force: an online game with real-world impact
The World Food Programme has launched Food Force, a game on Facebook with real-world impact, developed by KONAMI.
Faced with a series of missions, you see what it’s like to be an aid worker on the frontlines against hunger. To advance, you must grow and produce food, deliver it around the world and respond to emergencies, while building your logistical muscle.
When you purchase virtual goods, you provide school meals to hungry children in the real world. These school meal programmes provide daily meals to 20 million children every year, helping to keep them in school while providing them with the energy they need to grow and learn.
Team Freerice loves this game. Why? Because people worldwide spend millions of hours playing games online. If the same amount of time and money could be spent on a game that supports the fight against hunger, imagine what we could achieve!
If you’re reading this, it's safe to assume that you already enjoy learning, having fun, and making a difference in the world. This is the video game for you.
Let us know what you think of the new game in the comments below!

anyway to play without facebook
what if you do not have a facebook ?
May i know is that through buying facebook credit is the only way to help to feed the hungry in food force??
This Game is AWESOME and fun
good children will need that
It's a fun game (I don't find it too confusing really), but I really wish you didn't have to pay
Facebook credits to provide meals. :C
I was really bummed to find that if you really want to give real food to real children, you have to purchase the facebook credits. Thus, I much prefer freerice. Besides, the game is enormously confusing.
There seems to be some kind of an error with the game: "An error occurred with Food Force. Please try again later." Are we able to purchase virtual goods for free in the game and do sponsors pay for the school meals? I certainly hope this is the principle of the game!
The game is really laggy. Takes kind of a while to load and causes high CPU usage
I tried out this game, and it was pretty confusing and there's lots to do, but I just started, and hopefully I'll get the hang of it. I'm inviting all my friends. :)
